Refreshing and reliable reading, but some suggestions 4 out of 5 stars.

I've always had my doubts on The Message version due to its seemingly careless and unrestricted translation of the texts. But when paralleled with the more trusted (though definitely not perfect) NIV translation, I at least have something to fall back on if I ever doubted some of the phrasing in The Message. Together, it becomes a refreshing read while still feeling backed up by the more reliable NIV.

Although generally a good compilation, there are a couple things that I would've liked to see: the red color on Jesus' spoken texts (for at least in the NIV), and perhaps a more distinguishable font between the two translations (as I read one translation, I would accidentally jump to the other one when I turn the page).

This is a great bible to use my only problem, there wasn't a ribbon marker as the desription states.This bible gives a clear understanding of the meaning and terms by paralleling side by side.

The Zondervan Bible is good print but it is annoying that the thin page doesn't block the print on the reverse side completely. It's a bible after all so not bad.

NIV Worship Bible, Large Print
I was very happy with this Bible and the size of the print. The pages are a little thin resulting in visual print bleed threw, but after several weeks of use I don't even notice that anymore. A great Bible especially at this price.

I really like this Bible. It's not too big nor too small. I've heard alot about The Message, and I was hesitant to buy just the Message Bible, so the Parallel Bible made good sense, and I'm glad I did. The only thing I would change about it is there is no concordance. That is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.

I really like the NIV translation and The Message side by side. If I have a question about one I can look at the other easily. This Bible is very nice. I'm glad I bought it. It's worth the few extra dollars to buy leather, rather than hardback.

Just what I've been looking for. The binding is beautiful. The size is not too big. The lettering is a bit small but I would prefer that in order to keep the book size as small as it is. I don't like the gold edges on the pages, other than that it is done well. It is great to have the two texts side by side. It really helps in my personal study time as well as in groups where multiple versions of the Bible are used.

My purchase from this seller was purchased one week after two other purchases from other sellers. This one arrived two days later. I thought it was one of the other orders and was amazingly surprised when it was the one I just purchased. Book was in excellant condition. Never even opened and much cheaper than anyone else for the same book. I expected it to have been at least opened. It never was. I recommend purchase from this buyer and will look for them again on my next purchase. THANK YOU!

With the cross between the NIV and the Message it brings clarity to the word. Did not find the pages thin as I had read in earlier reviews. Pages were no thinner than any other bible that I have. Comparing price with other sites and stores, it was a good buy.

NIV/The Message: New International Version, Parallel The one that I purchased was Large and Giant Print. It is easy to reference. The print is not quite as large as the LARGE PRINT books at my local library but still legible to me. I received the book in a timely fashion and in excellent condition. Buying from Amazon was easy. I have recommended this way of purchasing books to others.

The Parallel Bible is written in such a way that verses that seem unclear in the NIV version are explained in the Message. Some of the translations have made me wonder about the real meaning and now to have it explained in every day terms makes the meaning so much more clearer. The large print also makes it easier to follow. A very rewarding book.

This bible is very slim and easy to carry with you. The print is very small so you must have excellent eyesite to read or you can use a magnifying glass. I plan to give the bible as a birthday gift to a friend.

An easy yet thorough read of what the Bible is and is not from an authoritative professor of scripture. It can be read quickly over the course of an hour or two. It's an excellent primer for the novice. I like the last few pages with topical references. I have already given this book away!

Dr. Scott Hahn has done Catholics (and anyone seeking greater understanding) a great service by writing this pocket guide to the Bible. It is small enough to carry around with you, but packed with tons of useful information on the most sacred book of Christians.
The book is organized in a very usable manner, what the Bible is, what its made up of,who wrote it,how it relates to the Church, how to understand the Bible, a reading program for reading the Bible, an overview of all the books that make up the Bible, and an excellent topical reference section in the back of this compact 80 page book. This is probably the best parallel Bible out there. My only complaint is that it was not updated to include the 2nd edition of the New Living Translation.

I PURCHASED THIS BIBLE FOR MY WIFE, AND SHE IS MORE THAN PLEASED WITH IT, AND READS IN IT EVERY DAY.

I think this is the perfect combination for me. In my church circles, the NIV is the default text. The KJV is classic and a helpful reference. NASB is more literal and helpful as well. And finally, the NLT is my favorite for devotionals and casual reading.

My only gripe is small but unforgivable. Each page ends when one of the translations run out of room (or when a book/chapter ends). But often, the passage ends mid-sentence (or even mid-word), and the rest of the translations follow suit. But there is no guarantee that all the passages end at exactly the same word, and often a key word is at the end of one page, but at the beginning of the next page in a different translation. Sometimes one translation ends in the middle of, say, verse 17, while another translation ends in the middle of verse 18. This is extremely annoying when it occurs (often), and would have been so simple to avoid with a little forethought.

(Example for current users: 1 Peter 1:17.)
