Birds and the Bees made easy! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book for helping girls understand what is happening to their bodies as they grow up. The information is correct, clear and EASY TO UNDERSTAND. The sketches of people are clear and detailed enough to be helpful, but not so graphic that they hinge on porn. My daughter loved reading this book and refers to it even after two years. It sure made my job easier!

Great for the newly-developing tween 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter loves this book. It has information and advice about a girl's body, while staying away from controversial subjects. (Personally I'm in the tell-'em-young camp, but I know not everybody is). Anyway, this book covers physical development, hair washing, ear piercing, and all manner of random coming-of-age stuff in an extremely accessible way.

Editorial Review:

This bestselling guide answers all the questions growing girls have about their bodies - from hair care to healthy eating, bad breath to bra buying, pimples to periods. It offers guidance about basic hygiene and health without addressing issues of sexuality. Over 1 million copies sold!

I LOVE THIS BOOK!! It reminds me so much of my childhood. I bought it for myself, but had a wonderful time sharing it with my Nanny (my grandmother.) Although I'm pretty yound and my Nanny is pretty old, we both had fun reading through this book and remembering the things we did when we were little! This is a great book for a mother and daughter or a grandmother and granddaughter to share, and will be charrished for years and years!

Editorial Review:

The Daring Book for Girls is the manual for everything that girls need to know—and that doesn't mean sewing buttonholes! Whether it's female heroes in history, secret note-passing skills, science projects, friendship bracelets, double dutch, cats cradle, the perfect cartwheel or the eternal mystery of what boys are thinking, this book has it all. But it's not just a guide to giggling at sleepovers—although that's included, of course! Whether readers consider themselves tomboys, girly-girls, or a little bit of both, this book is every girl's invitation to adventure.

Great Book! 5 out of 5 stars.

This was a great book! Lies Young Women Believe was very personable book and I love how Gresh and DeMoss write in a very uncondeming way. As an 18 year old, I don't like "self-help" books and this definitly was not one of them! If you are looking for a easy read with helpful advice, this is the book for you.

Great material 5 out of 5 stars.

We have used this book for an inter-generational, inter-denominational study and it has been awesome. The Biblical truths providing the foundation of this study have the power to transform lives. Highly recommend this [...].

SUCH A GOOD BOOK!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is one of the best books I've read!! It's amazing! This book chapter by chapter shows us teens how to stand against all those lies satan throws at us.. what to do with them! Nancy and Dannah write well, with their own stories and others included, which makes it more interesting. Some of the lies they talk about are lies about God, guys, technology and how we use it, and friends. Many more included! An amazing book focused on teens.

Wonderful book! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book gives a lot of insight for young women seeking to do what's right and following what the Bible says about how to combat the lies this generation faces in so many different facets. I highly recommend this book for Bible studies, for personal reading, etc. GREAT BOOK!!!!

A Must for Fifth Grade Girls 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this for a grand daughter who'ss getting ready for middle school next year. She's been 'freaking out' over the significant changes in middle school.

I haven't read the entire book but I've skimmed it enough to see that it will be a life saver for her, and I highly recommend it for anyone who has a girl leaving the comfort of elementary school.

Editorial Review:

Middle school is all about change. In the opening section, girls take a quiz to determine how they respond to change, then receive tips on how to cope with the big changes that they're getting ready to face as they start middle school- switching classes, getting up earlier, and having their own lockers, all while learning to manage a new school, new teachers, new friends, and LOTS more homework and activities! The secret to feeling more confident as she starts middle school is having a little insight into what to expect. This book provides that information as well as "Smart Girl's tips" from girls who have already made the grade in the big school.

Helps with the tough issues 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

Fabulous! While this book provides helpful information on everyday subjects like how to behave at a friend's house and the movie theater,it's best advice deals with the tough issues: visiting a dying (and scary) relative in the hospital, bumping into friends at a public birthday party that you weren't invited to and consoling a friend whose parent has died, to name a few.

Definitely worth the price for my eight-year-old daughter, who enjoys reading the book as much as I like her learning the appropriate responses to problems that we can't always anticipate.

Great everything! 5 out of 5 stars.

American Girl has accomplished making books with about everything you ask about in it. it gives you great advice, and i don't think this book has JUST common sense because lots of girls out there wouldn't know some of this stuff. I think it's an awesome book and i think all the American Girl books are awesome.

If it was just common sense, we'd all have it! 5 out of 5 stars.

Give your child a handbook of the survival skills that she will need at school, the workplace and beyond! Yes, first impressions do count, but life situations frequently require tact and sensitivity that must be taught. Learn the wrong set of social behaviors, and you can be blocked from a world of sometimes life-changing opportunities to come.

A Smart Girl's Guide To Manners (American Girl Library) is a handbook of those survival skills that will give young ladies an excellent foothold in the social world that frequently requires more than they can offer based on instinct, alone.

Highly recommended!

Big hit 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

My niece is 9 and I gave this to her as one of her Christmas gifts. She loves her other books from the American Girl series and this one is no exception. She began reading it immediately and then discussing it with me. It was a big hit! And it seems very practical and useful for helping young girls navigate those early relationships with friends.

Oh, you gotta have friends! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Bette Middler sang about it -- You gotta have friends! American Girl will explain it all to the tween in your life: how to meet friends, keep friends, avoid arguments, and keep on having fun through it all!

This book is a must have for girls and their families. Conversations will be started, communication will grow, and happiness will abound. Now, what could be wrong with that?

This book is filled with wonderful illustrations that underscore the lively writing.

Absolutely recommended!

Didn't like Sex talk 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Although the book discusses it tastefully, I could have done without the section on Sexual Intercourse. That makes it less appropriate for the younger set (9) who are just learning about themselves let alone an interaction with another. The book is written in a manner that keeps the subject interesting and the true life stories are a hit. After raising three adult children, I was looking for a book for my younger children that just discussed the physical changes at this age. Things like why it may be good to wear deodorant, take more baths/showers while stressing things like feeling comfortable with your body and that other people touching it is not appropriate. I think a good book but stress its use for older girls.

good book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is great. I work with kids ages 9-11 and they're at that age where curiosity becomes overbearing. Mavis Jukes touches on hard to discuss topics and makes learning about scary things easier. At the same time it is not too detailed.

We all need help sometimes 5 out of 5 stars.

I gave the book to my daughter, to assist her with her daughter who is 9 years old now. The book is great. It covers all the things a little girl who is becoming a young teenager needs to know about her body changes and life in general. Wonderful!!

Better title? 1 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

A better title for this book would be
A girls guide on how to be an obnoxious, ignorant, stuck up brat.
Not only are today's younger girls becoming more superficial, misinformed, ignorant, and mindless, this book only reinforces it by providing a form of authority to support lousy behavior.
I read through this book and every page boggled my mind at how anyone would want their young daughters to read this kind of garbage.
Yes, this book is full of misinformation (the section on animals), tells girls to behave like stuck up snobs (celebrity page), and promotes irritating and obnoxious behavior (how to annoy people). So what does a girl gain from reading this? She doesn't become more educated, Doesn't become more informed, doesn't become smarter, doesn't get to think about anything, doesn't become better at anything.
Looks like anyone with any kind of idea can publish any lousy book nowadays and make money by taking advantage of people's apathy about everything.

Editorial Review:

From the award-winning author of the best books on puberty — A completely new book written especially for 8-11-year-old girls, playfully illustrated in an appealing, two-color design.

Young girls before the onset of puberty have a curiosity about their soon-to-be changing bodies that needs addressing in a simpler way than for their older sisters. In the proven, trust-worthy, Madaras-friendly voice and style, this entirely new book now brings them the same kind of thoughtful, down-to-earth information—but at a reading and understanding level that's just right for them.

Responding throughout to real-life questions and observations from younger girls, Madaras explores the strange and thrilling changes that are happening, or about to happen, to them, including: the development of breasts, body hair, and body fat; the changes in their reproductive organs, both inside and out; their first period and all the complex feelings surrounding it; the unwelcome appearance of acne and new body odors; and, perhaps most important, how to respect and celebrate their unique bodies, even when the outside world is not always so accepting.

Lively cartoon drawings throughout make the book not only helpful, but fun to read, too.

Story Behind the Book

“My teenage daughter really needs to hear this!” Such was the typical reaction from countless men and women who read Shaunti Feldhahn ’s bestselling For Women Only. “If forty-year-old women are surprised by the truth about how men think, we realized the value in helping teenagers discover these realities as well,” says Shaunti. Teaming with her best friend Lisa Rice , a mother of teen girls and the coauthor of For Women Only Discussion Guide, they launched a major national survey of guys fifteen to twenty. Their surprising findings are revealed here to help girls improve their relationships with the opposite sex, now and into the future.
