"Deadly Prison Outbreak" 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"Quarantine" is a pretty good novelization, based on the Season 2 X-Files episode, "F. Emasculata." In it, a highly infectious disease is transported from a Costa Rican rain forest to a Virginian prison, killing more than a dozen inmates in the process--except for two very dangerous convicts who have escaped. Hence FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are called in to investigate. Scully's responsible for the medical aspect of the investigation--uncovering a secret quarantine that could jeopardize her life--while Mulder is left to do the legwork--tracking down the two suspects, who are not only deadly in the physical sense of the word (they were incarcerated for murder), but they could have infected numerous people as well.

It's been a long time since I've seen the episode, so I can't really compare it to this novelization. I did notice, though, that the storyline is fairly similar to Stephen King's "The Stand," so if you're into conspiracies, deadly diseases and all that, then you'll probably like "Quarantine." However, easily-nauseated readers may want to pass this one up, since there are a few descriptive scenes involving pus-erupting boils and red-orange beetles that dwell inside them. If you're a fast reader, you can probably finish this book in about the same time it would take to watch the episode. It's a breeze to read, considering the spare writing and only 117 pages to get through. Definitely for the young X-Files crowd, but older fans should like it too.

Editorial Review:

Deadly Prison Outbreak

When a highly infectious disease breaks out with in the confines of the Cumberland State Correctional Facility, Special Agents Mulder and Scully are called in to find the cause of the epidemic, and put a stop to it.

Outside the prison walls, Mulder risks his reputation--and his--life to track down two escaped prisoners--who may or may not be infected. Meanwhile, on the inside, Scully finds herself facing a full quarantine--and set of doctors who are as silent about the situation as the bodies they are burning.

Can Mulder and Scully find the men before this plague claims more lives?

summary of the X-Files book "E.B.E." 4 out of 5 stars.

Mulder and Scully follow a truck which Mulder believes carries something odd, and a possibility of it being extra-terrestrial. The agents found out that they are no more than two pawns in a governmental game and the government will stop at nothing to keep them silent.

Editorial Review:

We are not alone. Special agent Fox Mulder is convinced, especially

after hearing rumors that a UFO shot down over Iraq has mysteriously

disappeared. Was an E.B.E.'an extraterrestrial biological entity'on

board? Has it been spirited away by hostile government forces? Mulder

is willing to stake his life on it'and he may have to!

I`m a huge fan of the the show and pretty much love every book that is related to it. I really liked the episode and this novelization is one of the best. By the way Flukman is my favorite monster on the show.

Editorial Review:

A man's body is discovered in the New Jersey sewer system, and a "routine" murder investigation ensues. But when several workers are attacked by a vicious sewer-dwelling monster, it becomes clear that something much more sinister is going on underground. Mulder and Scully soon find themselves on the slimy trail of a creature as disgusting as it is dangerous.

A superb gothic horror tale/romance on a third grade level 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

A reading teacher, I want books that children love to read. This is one of them. Having read and used all of the Random House Bullseye Chiller classic horror tales, many of which (Dracula and Frankenstein, for example) are very good, I consider Return of the Werewolf the best (and most difficult) of the lot. Nine and ten year old girls, in particular, love this book. It is a very well done dark, gothic romance.

The cover is a disaster. It suggests a simple-minded, bloody monster story which will repel girls, the very readers who are most likely to find the book absorbing, and will attract boys, many of whom will be disappointed by the romance and subtlety.

The formula-generated reading level of 2.3 on the back cover is absurd. The vocabulary and complexity of the plot require at least a fourth grade reading level.

A great, highly motivating book!

It was Brad Wilczek who is killing people, or is it? 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The CEO of a giant computer company died. A previous agent of Fox Mulder died. Connection? Both men died in Eurisko, a giant computer company that is programmed by a giant computer. Two people dead, one suspect: Brad Wilczek. Why is there a code five investigation (code five clearance) at Wilczek's house? No evidence that it was Wilczek, but he confesed. Is his confesion a lie? That's what Mulder suspects. What a book!

Editorial Review:

A computer-run building operations system goes awry'killing thecompany CEO and the FBI investigator assigned to the case. Mulderand Scully's preliminary investigation shows that only one person hasthe technical know-how to override the system: Brad Wilczek, thehigh-strung young computer whiz who created the program. But isWilczek the driving force behind the havoc? Or has the CentralOperating System developed a malevolent mind of its own . . ?

Three Chilling tales of the macabre for the low reader. 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book offers those of a very low reading level a way to explore classic literature. After using it in my classroom with my special education students, they were able to freely participate in discussions as well as contribute to group projects. It allows those reading below the third grade level to engage with other adults and older students in literary conversations.

Editorial Review:

Easy-to-read retellings of three of Poe's chilling tales of horror include ""The Masque of the Red Death,"" ""The Cask of Amontillado,"" and ""The Pit and the Pendulum."" Reading Level, 2.4. Reissue.
