Spawn: Season of the Crossover 4 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: READER BEWARE: This volume requires you to read outside mini-series.
- Violator, Angela, Spawn: Blood Feud, and Youngblood issues 7 & 8

OK, Let me just start by saying that I've been on the Spawn-wagon since day 1.
I have the entire series in comic format.
All the mini-series & spin-off's.
Basically every comic he's ever appeared in.
So trust me when I say, that this volume as it is, is incomplete.
It collects issues 13 through 33, but doesn't include any crossovers that are necessary to fill various plot holes you'll encounter.

REQUIREMENTS:

- THE VIOLATOR (Mini-Series) - Occurs during issues 21 through 23.
(As far as I can tell, there is no trade-paper-back that collects these.)

- ANGELA (Mini-Series) - Occurs between Issues 28 & 29
(This one is 100% necessary, And yes there is a TPB, but it's rare, not as rare as the comics though.)

- SPAWN: BLOOD FEUD (Mini-Series) - Occurs between issues 32 & 33
(The prelude of which can only be found in comic format, as a 6-page addition to issue #32. And once again no TPB that collects this
mini-series, which is crucial to the Spawn storyline, as many future issues refer back to this mini-series.)

- YOUNGBLLOD #7 - occurs after issue #23 - (not necessary to the plot) -You only need this issue if you want to see where Overtkill winds up after Twitch fires a bullet into his ear.

- YOUNGBLOOD #8 - occurs before issue #27
(Unfortunately this one is also necessary reading, as it contains the death of 2 major Spawn characters. I'm not gonna ruin it for you, by telling you which ones.)

In conclusion, I'd like to say,
I would've given this collection 5 stars, but it's incomplete.
Aside from which, issues 19 & 20 are retarded.
(The arc concerning Houdini as a dimensional-traveling hyper-mage,
a flying car,
and a Spawn suit that can produce anything with just a thought.)
Like I said, retarded. A stain on Spawn's reputation.
Other than that, the writing is superb, and the art is amazing.
Action-packed horror/fantasy for any comic-book junkie. Old or new.

MORAL OF THE STORY:
Even the homeless have their king.

Spawn 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the first 12 comics of spawn created put together into a collection edition which makes it great for all those Spawn lovers who could never get ahold of the older comics.

Bravissima! 5 out of 5 stars.

Product came in mint condition, smartly packaged, and shipped quickly. The book is great and so was the price.

Good start 5 out of 5 stars.

This was a good book to pick up if you are just getting into the Spawn universe. It does omit issue 9-10 because of writer issues that happened in the 90's, but it is still worth checking out!

Great read!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Al Simmons/Spawn is one of the more interesting comic book characters I've read who I'd recommend to anybody. He's no tight spandex mr. perfect who wants to save the world so he can get a pat on the back, no he is a flawed man struggling with his inner demons while caught in the middle of an ongoing war between heaven and hell. If your looking for something engaging to read than this is it, especially if you like anti-heroes.

Miller good/McFarlane bad 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I put off buying this book for the last 13 years.
I've tried to understand the popularity of Todd McFarlane's work, but I just don't get it.

He seems to be the perfect example of what was so bad about the initial Image explosion in the 90's. Style over content.
And TM's style isn't that great anyway.

This book would've worked with an artist like Bill Sienkiewicz. The scenes where Margaret Love details her plans to 'heal the world' would benefit from a less linear artistic approach. Instead they seem like a glossed over afterthought (and not because of the writing). Because TM does exactly what it says on the tin. A good artist can draw one panel without any dialogue and you could spend hours on it. But TM's art is so disposable, it reads like Batman fights Spawn for 99% of the book... oh, and there's something about averting a world war.

Also, Batman is depicted in almost every panel with his head in black silhouette, except for a large pair of cartoony white eyes.
Come to think of it, so is Spawn. Spotting a trend yet? It may have been a stylistic choice, but it just looks lazy.
In fact, at one point Alfred asks why Bruce Wayne is wearing the cowl in the cave. It's like he's saying what everyone else is thinking. Faces are a bit too much of a challenge, perhaps?

Miller however, is, as always, fun to read. It's not one of his more prolific efforts, but you see the ongoing development of the Batman characterisation he continues with in DK2 and All Star Batman & Robin. He's a grizzly, no nonsense, over the top. I suppose you either love it or hate it.

BUT the art really lets the story down. Pulls it down, in fact.
Not one of Miller's wiser collaboration choices. It seems like a wasted opportunity. And a blatant crossover sales pitch.

But credit where it's due, the final page alone was worth it. No-one does a cynical punchline like Miller.

Editorial Review:

Frank Miller, author of The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One and Sin City, brings Batman to New York City in his search for an arsenal of high-tech weapons and robots that use decapitated human heads as their brains. Antagonistic, confrontational and suspicious of each other, Spawn and Batman engage in violent battles before realizing they are both after the same villain. Grudgingly, they decide to work together. The person they seek has been kidnapping and decapitating the homeless for use in the robots, but that’s only part of the plan: there is also a nuclear arsenal ready to be deployed. Will Spawn and Batman be able to foil the plan to destroy the world? It’s a story filled with many twists and turns and a surprise ending that affected Spawn for years afterward.

Pretty Cool and One of a kind! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I am a Freddy Krueger nut and I have all kind of junk collected from all over the place. This is a very concise guide with lots of pictures of almost all the items in it. For awhile it was my checklist of what I hadn't gotten a hold of yet. I love this and keep it close to my collection. It also made me aware of all of the other monster items that are out there in the horror genre. This book covers everything from classic movie monsters (nosferatu, Frankenstein,) to the newest sideshow and mcfarlane releases. I just hope they release a second edition soon to keep up with the new booming market of horror collectibles!

Tomarts Definitive Guide To Horror Collectibles 5 out of 5 stars.

This is probably one the most informative guide to anything and everthing horror that has been produced in the last 25 years. From everything to movieposters to memorabilia, Tomarts Guide to Horror is a must have for every horror fan. With full color pages how could anyone pass this up. I strongly recomend that if you buy horror movies regularly, you should definitely give this book a try.

Wait to Catch Up 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 13 people found this review helpful.

To be honest, I have not read it yet fully, just glanced over it, because I do not want to read it til the other trades catch up. (Yes, I know that may take awhile, but the big books are really knocking them out well.)
So to be honest, what I have seen so far looks good, and seems even more twisted and vicious than the original lines run. In my opinion, off the cuff, it will be worth the read.

Green Goblin vs Hobgoblin 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It's a fight that many people wanted to see since Hobgoblin's first appearnace in ASM #238. Well in ASM #312, it finally happened. Green Goblin battles the Hobgoblin, only with Harry Osborn donning the Green Goblin identity. McFarlane's artwork is fantastic in this issue. A must have for anybody thats a Green Goblin fan.
