Mastering The Trade 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I was excited to receive this book because it is written by a seasoned professional and as such carries a lot more credibility than one from someone who never actually managed money. I am a money manager and systems developer myself and have managed huge positions and had many hundreds of clients. The first few chapters of the book cover some basics particularly those relating to psychology and setting up to trade. All of it is good. The section on computers is as would be expected for a book published in 2006. Then the book gets into some areas of trading. Chapter 5 is excellent and covers various breadth and/or market internal measurements. I found this chapter to be worth the price of the book as I have always traded with breadth and it was very nice to catch some differt viewpoints and ideas. John Carter is not a systems trader and I am. I code everything and test it extensively. Mr. Carter is a discretionary trader and as I started to code his methods (Part two) I found them to not hold up very well to the scrutiny of computer analysis. The concepts are still of value though, so I still recommend it as excellent reading and a wide array of excellent trading ideas that could be built on. Many times it is the process in the thinking that is of more value that the content itself. So, if you are inclined to purchase the book to find instantly useable trading ideas, you might come up short. But, if you want something that might inspire some of your own brilliance, of course, you may just find a jewel or two. Section three of the book covers more on planning, psychology and the game of trading. This is an excellent book for any level of trader.

This is one of the first books out with the newer format on ebay. Easy reading, easy to understand. I recomend it.

Best reference for selling on eBay 5 out of 5 stars.

This book not only is a great introduction to eBay, it's the best reference book to selling on eBay I've seen because of the extensive glossary, index and guide to those odd acronymns. It's also a realistic guide to selling -- no rose-colored classes. There are not too many illustrations in here but the ones there are a big help. This book is a keeper, I'm going to keep it within arm's reach. From the books I've seen, this one is the most up-to-date also.

More Than Just 101 4 out of 5 stars.

I started selling at eBay in 1995 when there were just 1200 items for sale and only two categories. And I thought I knew everything. Ha! Steve Weber's book has everything. And as a past teacher trainer at Ohio State University and other institutions I can say that Steve wrote this book in the perfect style--large type, space between words and lines, and easy-to-read pictures of eBay screens.

My only advice to the reader is to realize that selling at eBay gets harder and harder as the years pass. Steve makes eBay selling sound like a sure bet. Believe me, it isn't. Of course, he is so much more successful at it than I ever was. Hmmm-I think I'll go back and read the book again and take notes.--Sam Yulish, author of "Where Have All the Hippies Gone?" and many publications for teachers.

Shhhh! Please don't tell anyone! 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I was first introduced to this book in 1983. I didn't merely read this book, I absorbed it.

I learned that doing the mathematics was only the beginning. With alarming ease, you could actually "feel" the market and it's strength or weaknesses long before it was being reported on CNN and CNBC.

ADX and DMI are now part of my everyday breathing and eating.

I really can't describe how much $$$ it has saved me and how much $$$ I've made from learning about Welles Wilder.

But please, let's just keep it a secret amongst friends.

Don't tell anyone about this book and if someone asks, you've only heard of Welles Wilder from gypsy fortune tellers and, besides, he was committed to the looney bin years ago.

New Concepts in Technical Trading Systems 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have been purchasing books on trading for many years and recently it was suggested that I could find more detail on the RSI in Wilder's book so I purchased it. The book is dated - basically written before PCs were available for charting the indicator so much of the book goes through the manual calculation of ADX and RSI indicators which is fine. What is suprising is the lack of depth in setting the parameters which is understandable since all of the work in the book was manually calculated. Several "system" approaches are described but in modern terms I don't see them as very effective. Basically the book served the purpose of describing the indicators but in reflection the book is much to dated to recommend. You can find the same info on the Internet for free at some trader's website with some searching.

Trading systems that confuse 2 out of 5 stars.
19 of 24 people found this review helpful.

If you're building a computer based trading system, this title offers some interesting insight. There are several example trading systems that implement commonly used system features, and these systems are analyzed and commented on. But this is far from a blueprint--the methods used are too rough to actually use as defined, and the descriptions are very confusing in many places. Included TradeStation code is a bit easier than most to understand, but that's not saying much. Every time I read this book, I feel like my time would be better spent reviewing Conway & Behle's "Professional Stock Trading: System Design and Automation", which covers much of the same material but with considerably more coherance.

Editorial Review:

Today’s computer trading programs can be a godsend to traders looking for an extra edge. They can also be filled with dangerous—and expensive—pitfalls for the uninitiated. Trading Systems That Work reviews and analyzes today’s major software programs, and helps traders determine which will work best for their personal trading style and habits—and which could actually work against them. Emphasizing Tradestation and Excel (the two most popular software trading programs), this valuable guidebook covers all aspects of building, understanding, and evaluating a system. Traders will keep Trading Systems That Work handy for its: *Clear, step-by-step assistance with intricate systems *Techniques to evaluate the true performance of any system

Out of Date Book! 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I found Day Trade Online very easy to read. It provides the reader with a good overview of how the market works with one major exception. The whole basis of Farrell's trading system is to analyze fractions and trade for "tiny" (1/16th) profits with a bare minimum of $5,000 in trading capital. This system would have worked well in the 1990's but the system that is used today is the decimal system. With the use of the decimal system the margins rarely reach a 1/16th (or .0625 cent) spread making it next to impossible to use Farrell's method. (On a side note: I cannot find any information on the internet about Christopher Farrell or the investment fund that he started.)

Editorial Review:

Day trading can be quite lucrative, but only if you know what you are doing. As Farrell points out: "Trading for a living is hard. Trading for a living over the Internet is even harder. There are many challenges and obstacles that confront you. Venturing into this jungle unprepared is a recipe for disaster." This straightforward guide provides the head start and heads up necessary to thrive as a day trader, covering everything from the dangers and pitfalls of trading online to an in-depth analysis of which trading techniques work and which don't. Day Trade Online, Second Edition presents inside information on the strategies of top trading firms, including the most secretive, misunderstood, and profitable function on Wall Street. Most importantly, you will learn to look at ten different stocks and pinpoint which one to trade, when, at what price, and why. With the right know-how, you will be able to apply this knowledge to every single stock that you screen.

Nothing to gain by reading this 1 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

As others have stated the book is little more than a 200 page advertisement for e-trade.

I read the book because I know very little about investing in the stock market and I would like to learn.

Even as god awful new to the stock market I am, I learned almost nothing from the book. Many of his descriptions of the way things are "Why do companies go public?" were oversimplified to the point of being wrong.

I went into the book with a bunch of questions and left will all of the same questions.

At best the only thing the book does is convince you to invest money in the stock market through E-trade.

If you are going to trade online, the $13 per trade commission E-Trade charges you is much higher than the $7/trade rate offered by Scottrade, or the $10/trade Ameritrade offers but you won't find that in the book.

If you want to learn about the stock market, I would recommend instead Jim Cramer's 'Mad Money' or 'Sane Investing in an Insane World'.

If you managed to make it here to read this review then it is a fair bet you already know everything 'It's Your Money' has to say. The book is really that worthless.

Much overrated! 1 out of 5 stars.
29 of 31 people found this review helpful.

I had read Douglas's Trading in the Zone before. I had a very high expectation on this one. However, I was very disappointed.

The author emphasized throughout the book the importance of entering the zone, a state of mind that you can neglect fear, greed, P/L, and just trade according to your feeling of the market, though he supplemented that with the need of analysis, hardwork, focus blah blah blah, and that different people have different means to enter the zone, illustrated with examples anonymous. Those might be true stories. However, the author just did not tell the readers how they could do it themselves without the assistance of a coach like the author's good self.

A reviewer of this book wrote that this should be read together with Douglas's Trading in the Zone and Mc Call's The Way of the Warrior Trader. One should read those two excellent books only, but definitely not this.

Editorial Review:

Overcome the obstacles that can prevent you from winning at the trading game

A trader's emotional state is vital to being a successful investor. There are many psychological factors that can affect the decisions one makes in the course of a trading day. This book focuses on overcoming issues such as anxiety, fear, and over-ambition so that traders can become more focused and be more successful-in other words, enter the zone-and stay in it as long as possible.
