Another simple, repetitive story for little ones! 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Children like a repetitive structure because it helps them understand what's going on and predict what will happen next. (For that matter, adults like it too! Repetition is a crucial part of traditional storytelling and modern-day speechifying.)

This one is about a child who wrote to the zoo for a pet and, being a zoo, they sent him/her all manner of exotic, but unsuitable animals before finally hitting on a puppy. Each animal is hidden inside a box of some sort, that's where the flaps come in.

It's great fun (at least the first thousand times, then it's only a little fun) to lift the flaps and adlib some animal sounds to describe whatever's hiding. And, as a plus, the flaps on this book are actually fairly sturdy - we haven't had a rip yet, and we've had this book a few years.

Definitely a keeper.

Editorial Review:

"Good night, Gorilla," says the weary watchman as he walks by the gorilla cage on his nightly rounds at the zoo. The gorilla answers by quietly pickpocketing the guard's keys, stealthily trailing him, and unlocking the cages of every animal the oblivious fellow bids goodnight to. Looking much like an exhausted father, the uniformed guard traipses home toward his cottage, while the lonely zoo animals softly parade behind him. The animals manage to slip into his bedroom and nestle unnoticed near his sleepy wife--until the bold little gorilla goes so far as to snuggle up beside her as she turns out the light. Author and illustrator Peggy Rathmann (creator of the Caldecott-winning Officer Buckle and Gloria) relies more on the nuances of her jewel-toned pictures than on words to pace this giggly bedtime story, making it perfect for observant preschoolers. In one inky-black spread, Rathmann lets only the shocked, wide-open eyes of the guard's wife tell us that the gorilla has been detected! Tiny details such as the faithful, banana-toting mouse and sky-bound pink balloon that appear in each picture keep this book fresh, magical, and fun--even after countless bedtime readings. A fun read 5 out of 5 stars.

My girls and I so enjoy reading the other book in the series, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?". My twin girls are 2 and they would actually sit with the other book and read it to out loud to each other, so it was a great find to have another book in the series for us to read, the illustrations are colorful and a great book to learn new vocabulary words.

for all ages 5 out of 5 stars.

My 2 year old granddaughter loved "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", so I knew she would like "Polar Bear, Polar Bear" The artwork is simple but attractive. The messages are short but very appropriate. As a former teacher, I would love to have used this book with third graders as an example of the use of specific verbs. They would have loved it just as Caitlin and my 9-month old grandson does. A great little book that can be used for many years and at many depths.

Editorial Review:

This hardcover childrens book is beautifully written/boldly illustrated by Eric Carle, Bill Martin Jr, and Henry Green. Zoo animals, like polar bears and walruses make their accompanying sounds for each other and children imitate the sounds for the zookee

Editorial Review:

"It's a pretty good zoo," said young Gerald McGrew, "and the fellow who runs it seems proud of it, too." But if Gerald ran the zoo, the New Zoo, McGrew Zoo, he'd see to making a change or two: "So I'd open each cage. I'd unlock every pen, let the animals go, and start over again." And that's just what Gerald imagines, as he travels the world in this playfully illustrated Dr. Seuss classic (first published back in 1950), collecting all sorts of beasts "that you don't see every day." From the mountains of Zomba-ma-Tant to the blistering sands of the Desert of Zind, Gerald hunts down every animal imaginable ("I'll catch 'em in countries no one can spell, like the country of Motta-fa-Potta-fa-Pell"). Whether it's a scraggle-foot Mulligatawny or a wild-haired Iota (from "the far western part of south-east North Dakota"), Gerald amazes the world with his new and improved zoo: "This Zoo Keeper, New Keeper's simply astounding! He travels so far that you think he would drop! When do you suppose this young fellow will stop?"

But Gerald's weird and wonderful globe-trotting safari doesn't end a moment too soon: "young McGrew's made his mark. He's built a zoo better than Noah's whole Ark!" Some of the text and illustrations--imaginative as they are--are obviously dated, such as the following passage: "I'll hunt in the mountains of Zomba-ma-Tant/ With helpers who all wear their eyes at a slant,/ And capture a fine fluffy bird called the Bustard/ Who only eats custard with sauce made of mustard." And your children may be the first to recognize that attitudes have changed since the xenophobic '50s. But that doesn't mean this tale need be discarded; instead, it should be discussed. Ironically, Seuss was trying here--in his wild, explosive, and sometimes careless manner--to celebrate the joys of unconventionality and the bliss of liberation! (Ages 4 to 8)

Fun Story with a Message 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I think this is a fun story with a good message at the end. It's funny to see the creature the chameleon winds up being toward the end - before he decides to be himself. I'd put this on the list of recommended Carle books.

This product was a wonderful addition to my teaching arsenal for animal adaptions. I gave the students an humerous start to thinking about the real life adaptions organism have that helps them survive.

The Mixed-Up Chameleon Board Book 4 out of 5 stars.

I enjoy reading this book not only to my 18 month old son but for myself.
At the moment he doesn't always sit for the whole book as it is a little long sometimes for a board book.
I feel this book encourages imagine and is simple enough for a toddler to understand!

Not up to par 2 out of 5 stars.

My son liked the colors in this book but it did not hold his interest as the others by Eric Carle. All in all this book was a disappointment.

The kids in my pre k class really enjoyed this story. Eric Carle is a terrific writer. They always ask to read it a second time.

Not gay anymore! 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 30 people found this review helpful.

The story doesn't stick true to what really happened. The gay couple split up as soon as he found a more attractive female mate. I guess that's the way nature was meant to be. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,169653,00.html

A most valuable addition to our library... 5 out of 5 stars.

A beautifully written and illustrated story. This is a very sweet love story and I can't wait to share it with everyone. Even though this is very clearly a childrens story, it is a story that will warm the heart of the adult reader as well.

disgusting 1 out of 5 stars.

This is disgusting. What is the world coming to when we have filth like this being given to our children. All this book is going to do is confuse them!

Tango book is missunderstood 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I don't think this book is about gay penguins. It is about two loving and caring penguins who are acting like penguins do. Animals don't think the same way humans do. Humans are the ones who have made this wonderful book into something not acceptable. I will be giving this book to my young grandchildren and I know they will appreciate it for what it is, a wonderful book about two penguins who are acting like penguins should and do. There is nothing homosenual about this book, only in the eye of the reader.

Editorial Review:

In the zoo there are all kinds of animal families. But Tango's family is not like any of the others.

A classic 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter-in-law asked me to help find this book - she told me it was my son's favorite and he wanted to have it for my grandson. I had no idea! I shouldn't have been surprised, though - I remember it fondly from my childhood too.

My grandchildren(ages 3 & 4) were fascinated with this library book. They wanted it read over and over, in fact, they loved it so much that I decided to buy it. It is an excellent reader for beginners and they get great fun out of attempting to read the words.

Lot of family history with this book, so I was predisposed to love it 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My father loved this book, and so he read it often to me. Now I read it often to my nieces. I love it all the more for the connection to my personal history.

This is a fun story (the illustrations, showing the children's reactions, are hysterical) about a critter who wants to live in the zoo, and to prove that he should he shows off all the tricks he and his spots can do. Eventually he goes to the circus, everybody is happy.

I will note that the zoo depicted is a very archaic, every animal in a small, unfriendly cage type of zoo; I do not think it is sensible that he'd really like to "live this way". But when it comes up as an issue, we'll talk about it. The focus of the book is really about the cool (rhyming) tricks that can be done with spots.

I will also note that the board book version of this is seriously abridged and is, unfortunately, not very well constructed. Please just get the full edition.

Editorial Review:

Illus. in color. Spot, a polka-dot leopard who can change colors and even juggle his own spots, tries to convince two children that he is special enough to be exhibited in the zoo.

Bright and colorful 5 out of 5 stars.

I really like this book. Each page has so much stuff to keep my daughters attention. The colors are bright and theres a lot of flaps. Its cute and teaches colors, shapes, counting. Ive bought other Fisher Price books like this. Definately recommend.

Flaps too small 4 out of 5 stars.

I love this book and our 10 month old daughter does too, only there are so many flaps in this book that they are smaller and harder to open. Our daughter can open most, but not all. The illustrations are very bright and the book teaches things like opposites, counting, etc. I think this book would be great for an older child.

Editorial Review:

Based on the popular Little People A to Z Learning Zoo play set from Fisher-Price, this newest title in the best-selling lift-the-flap series is sure to become a hit!

It's bright and early at the zoo.

The monkey wakes. "Oo-oo-ooo!"

"ROARRR!" says the lion. "Baaa," says the sheep.

Only the giraffe does not make a peep

Featuring lots of new animals, Let's Go to the Zoo! teaches colors, counting, matching, and more in an entertaining way. With surprises hidden behind dozens of flaps, kids will want to visit the Fisher-Price zoo again and again!

Great book for ages 4-7 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We read this for my daughter's kindergarten book club. It was SO cute! What a great way to get kids excited about reading. The references to great classic children's book and literature enriches an already fun story. Kids will love to see how the animals at the zoo take to reading. Very cute!

Editorial Review:

It started the summer of 2002, when the Springfield librarian, Molly McGrew, by mistake drove her bookmobile into the zoo.

In this rollicking rhymed story, Molly introduces birds and beasts to this new something called reading. She finds the perfect book for every animal—tall books for giraffes, tiny ones for crickets. “She even found waterproof books for the otter, who never went swimming without Harry Potter.” In no time at all, Molly has them “forsaking their niches, their nests, and their nooks,” going “wild, simply wild, about wonderful books.” Judy Sierra’s funny animal tale coupled with Marc Brown’s lush, fanciful paintings will have the same effect on young Homo sapiens. Altogether, it’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys!

Great Book!! 5 out of 5 stars.

My grandson was 14 months when I gave him this book while on vacation. The touch and feel feature was great for him. He "oohed and ahhhed" when he rubbed his fingers over the animals. It's a very sturdy book and although he probably didn't grasp all that I was reading to him, he thoroughly enjoyed the book and had me read it over and over to him. I would recommend it to anyone with small children.

My toddler loves this book. She likes to feel the different textures and she loves looking for George. She wants me to read it to her over and over.

Editorial Review:

George and Ted are going to the zoo today. But where has George gone? Will he miss seeing all the animals? Young readers will love touching all the animals in the zoo while looking for George, who is hiding on each page. Children are invited to explore a different tactile element, including the fuzzy mane of a zebra, the rough hide of a hippo, and the spotted coat of a leopard, on each spread.
