This is book is nicely layed out.
My favorite book of hers is Tricia Guild Pattern, this book is sort of similar in that it draws on her inspirations even though some of her icons are a little mainstream and predictable (probably because this book is a little older 2004) its still a good book on to have on the creative & inspirational shelf.

Tricia Guild has a unique understanding of the many ways in which color works in decoration. Her internationally renowned collections for Designers Guild and her experience as an innovative stylist are testament to her unique color sense. In the introductory section of the book, A Sense of Color, Tricia Guild examines color theory as well as the scope and potential of color in decoration. Seven individual chapters then take a detailed look at the color families--white, blue, green, yellow, natural, terracotta and red--analyzing specific examples, providing color boards for interiors created specially for the book and giving examples and suggestions for color combinations and contrasts. Finally, Tricia provides a section of color palettes, an easy reference to each color family as well as a guide to choosing her special colorways.

Tricia Guild suggests ways of using color to lend energy and warmth to an interior, ways of combining shades, shows how light, scale and proportion can affect a color and demonstrates how color can be introduced into a room by means of objects and soft furnishings. Forget the stale color schemes of pastelshades or off-white and the safe solutions of plain fabrics. Like other reviewers, I wondered, where are the "Rooms to Live In" mentioned in the book title.

The photographs in the book are beautiful, clear and quite colorful. Unfortunately, many of the photographs are closeups of things like coffee cups, floral arrangements, pillows, food and clothing, but very few shots of the rooms itself.

If you randomly turned to a page, you would probably get a closeup of something IN the room, but probably no large pictures of the room itself. If you look at the books' cover, you will see two small photos to the side of closeups of coffee cups and flowers, this is an example of the type of photos this book comprises.

Don't get me wrong, the color in the book is really good, the closeups great, BUT it is not a book of rooms. If this was a book of colorful accessories I would give it a 4.5 stars, but because it is supposed to be a decor book and is not, I'm giving it 2 stars. The decor style of the rooms is predominantly modern, contemporary and maybe a retro kind of style.

I think a more appropriate title would have been How to Accessorize your Home with Color or if they had left out the "Rooms to Live In" subtitle it would be fine. I would suggest you check it out of the library before purchasing to see if this is what you are looking for in a decor book.
